Eleven editions on, and still the same Light: Le Giornate continues to illuminate Italian cinema through the gaze of those who craft images and visions with light.
Spilimbergo remains the beating heart of the event, which branches out across other locations in Friuli and welcomes leading figures from the industry, students, and an enthusiastic public.
Among the key highlights of this year’s edition are the festival’s flagship awards: the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to Fabio Cianchetti, a master of cinematography, and the Controluce Award, which—intertwining cinema and craftsmanship—honours the quiet yet essential work of those behind the scenes. This year, the award celebrates the talent of make-up artist and hair stylist Alberta Giuliani.
The festival once again offers outstanding masterclasses: Marco Tullio Giordana, Riccardo Milani, Anne Riitta Ciccone and Lorenzo d’Amico de Carvalho, Hugh Welchman, and Saverio Costanzo lead sessions that enrich the festival’s educational and creative programme.
On-set photography remains a cherished theme: Gianni Fiorito presents Parthenope. Diario fotografico, a photographic journey through the visual world of Paolo Sorrentino’s latest film, Parthenope, with Silvia Degrandi as patron of the event.
Memory takes shape in the pages of Epistolario 1920-1961 by Luchino Visconti, curated by Caterina d’Amico and Alessandra Favino, and in Ciao, Marcello – Mastroianni the Anti-Star, a conversation with Silvia Scola dedicated to Marcello Mastroianni.
Maurizio Nichetti headlines the opening night, presenting his latest film, AmicheMai.
And still more events and guests are yet to come, including appearances by Milena Vukotic and Barbora Bobulova.
Le Giornate della Luce continues to affirm itself as a vibrant space for in-depth exploration, dialogue, and celebration of that (in)visible beauty known as cinematographic photography.
And from Spilimbergo, light continues to shine on our cinema.
